Eldridge Corners is a well-established small town with lots of history, some of which is a bit shady. Charlotte had no clue until the head of Longbourne and Payne is murdered and she starts asking questions and reading the manuscript of Carlton Witherspoon (the deceased).With her friend Jane looking for the plot of her next mystery novel and the need for a distraction as she is betrayed by John Trent, Charlotte reluctantly gets more involved. Her curiosity extends to the questionable accidental death of Carlton's wife and unknown heir to Carlton's estate.
This was a fun read, well-paced with interesting characters. Although sometimes a bit impractical and impulsive, Charlotte's heart is in the right place. She is loyal to a fault but even she has doubts. In LOVE, LIES, AND MURDER, part of her motivation is her love for her immediate boss, John Trent, and his betrayal - but what about his role in Carlton's murder?

Really liked the book. Hope to read more of Evelyn Cullet in the future.
I found myself wanting to know what happens next, yet not wanting the story to end. The combination of mystery, humor and romance, with clever twists and turns, kept me entertained through the last page. I’m very much looking forward to reading about more adventures with these captivating characters!

Many twists and turns. Didn't figure "who done it" til the end. Surprise ending made it even better. Loved it.
Charlotte Ross is a wonderful character who finds herself involved, albeit unwittingly sometimes, in murder, mystery and complicated romantic assignations. Evelyn Cullet weaves her magic in this story and keeps the reader involved throughout. Her characters are credible, entertaining and very compatible. They combine and contradict, all the time providing twists and turns in a mystery that isn't solved until the end. For me, reading this explained what happened in the sequel - Masterpiece of Murder. Another masterpiece by this talented writer.
I'm glad I managed to get this book for free. I got it for the synopsis of the plot this is the first time the synopsis has very little, the 40 yr old missing person case, to do with this book at all. And the first time the title of the book is actually the plot. I'm a strong woman. I've never had someone be there for me if I needed help. Needless to say I don't read romances for the flighty, giggly, helpless naive way women are portrayed. From the start the entire plot revolves around Charlotte's affair with her boss abruptly ending, Charlotte & her old friend recently come home to the town where she grew up as supposed to be long term friends. But Charlotte is less & less sure about her friends ability to tell the truth about why she is in town. The best friends lack any kind of chemistry together. Making the first part of the book very slow to get through nor did I find either one likeable. Charlotte's moaning & crying & despair that her boss is being taken advantage of by this other women he has asked to marry him is the dumbest part of the entire book. I was so disappointed that the mystery is so little a part of this plot. The mystery is actually the most interesting part of the whole book it never gets solved Charlotte & her friend just kind of back into figuring out what is going on.
I wish the author had spent more time with a back story for Charlotte's parents & why her Mother always over reacted if her husband was friendly to another woman?
If you are looking for a romance with weak helpless women then this is your book skip it if you are looking for a mystery.
Administrative assistant Charlotte Ross has an affair with her boss then learns he's asking someone else to marry him. Her mystery writer friend, now back in town and ready to solve a local murder, is just the distraction Charlotte doesn't need. Obligation to friendship draws her in, but Charlotte's heart is elsewhere. Twists and turns take this ill-equipped duo through solving the murder, but readers will be left guessing until the end. Some well-developed characters, a steady pace, and enough romance to keep the Romantic genre fans happy, Love, Lies and Murder is a story for those who enjoy a fun, light-hearted mystery. Ms. Cullet manages a balance between humor and heartbreak, murder and mayhem. For those who enjoy a murder mystery without the blood and guts, this one fits the bill.
